Frequently Asked Questions
Tuition
How much is tuition for CEP students?
Tuition and fees for CEP students during the regular academic year are listed on the Tuition page. Some courses may have additional fees for course-specific items such as studio materials or lab products. Other courses have self-support fees that entirely replace tuition and mandatory resource fees. These costs will be noted on the course section details in the online class schedule. Tuition and fees for summer term are calculated differently. More information is available on the Summer Session website.
Are CEP students eligible for financial aid?
No, a student must be admitted to a degree program (i.e., matriculated) and enrolled at least half-time to be eligible for financial aid. If a student wants to take more than 8 credits per term and/or apply for financial aid, the student should seek admission to the university and become a matriculating student.
Are in-state tuition rates available for CEP students who are Oregon residents?
Residency is not a factor in determining tuition for CEP students during fall, winter, and spring terms. During summer term, tuition does vary based on residency.
Fees
What mandatory enrollment fees are included in CEP tuition?
Mandatory fees that CEP students pay include: building, Recreation and Fitness Center, incidentals, and any current surcharges. CEP students do not pay health service fees and therefore are not eligible for health and counseling services.
Can a student choose to not pay mandatory fees if the covered services are not used?
No, mandatory fees are a required part of the tuition assessment.
What fees are CEP students NOT paying as part of their tuition assessment?
CEP students do not pay resource, matriculation, and health service fees. The course fee varies depending on enrollment and selected courses. Self-support courses have designated course section fees that replace the regular tuition and mandatory fees assessment, which limits access to some campus services. For more information see the Office of the Registrar's "How Much Will It Cost?" or Tuition and Fees pages. If you have been charged any of these fees in error, please contact Student Billing in the Business Affairs Office.
Do CEP students receive the services that are covered by the matriculation fee, even though they don't pay that fee?
CEP students are not required to pay for transcripts or change of program fees. Other matriculation fee-related services however, do not apply to CEP students.
What do I get for the incidental fees?
The incidental fee funds programs that promote students cultural and physical development, from student unions to intercollegiate athletics to childcare. Fee funding for programs is determined through the democratic process within the Associated Students of the University of Oregon (ASUO).
Are CEP students eligible for Health Center and Counseling Center services?
CEP students do not pay the health service fee and are not eligible for UO Health and Counseling Services.
Billing
How do I get my bill?
The University of Oregon utilizes QuikPAY®, an electronic system for all students to view and print their bills, and make payments online. Using a monthly billing cycle, statements are produced around the sixteenth of each month and an E-Bill is sent to each student's official UO e-mail account. QuikPAY® accounts can also be viewed online through DuckWeb.
How do I pay my bill?
Log in to DuckWeb and from the Student Menu, you can access the QuikPAY® website to make payments online. Payments are due on the first of the month and are considered past due if not received by the tenth of the month. The option of paying your bill in three monthly installments is available if you have signed the Revolving Charge Agreement and submitted it to the Student Billing Department. Please contact Student Billing with any payment questions.
Eligibility
Do I have to be an Oregon resident to take UO courses through CEP?
Oregon residency is not a factor in determining eligibility or tuition for CEP students.
Can non-U.S. citizens take courses through CEP?
Yes, non-U.S. citizens can register for courses through CEP, depending on their visa status. Please contact International Student and Scholar Services for questions regarding visa regulations. CEP is a non-admit, part-time student status and does not allow people with student visas to satisfy the full-time enrollment requirement. CEP cannot issue I-20 forms.
Signing up for CEP
What is the difference between AE and CEP?
The Community Education Program (CEP) provides a way to take regular UO credit classes without being formally admitted. Simply put, it is a non-admitted student status. In contrast, the UO Academic Extension (AE) provides a variety of credit and non-credit programs for professional development and lifelong learning.
How do I sign-up for CEP?
Just complete the CEP Registration Eligibility form to activate your registration status. For summer term registration eligibility, complete the Summer Session Eligibility form.
How long will it take to receive my registration information after submitting the CEP Registration Eligibility form online?
The Office of the Registrar will process this form and send registration information (your student ID number and PAC) via postal mail within five to ten business days. This process may take several weeks for international mailings. CEP forms submitted early may not be processed until the term prior to requested registration eligibility. For example, CEP forms submitted during spring for fall term registration may not be processed until the beginning of summer term.
Do I still need to fill out the CEP Registration Eligibility form if I already have a student ID number and PAC?
Even if you are a staff, faculty, or former student with a PAC and UO ID number, you will still need to activate your CEP registration status by completing the CEP Registration Eligibility form. If it has been more than four terms since you last registered as a CEP student you will need to submit this form to reactivate your registration status. For summer term registration, complete the Summer Session Eligibility form.
If I can't fill out the CEP Registration Eligibility form online, what are the alternatives?
You can request CEP registration status any of the following ways:
Can I request my PAC and student ID number via e-mail?
- Call the CEP office at 541-346-5614 and complete the form over the phone, to receive registration information via postal mail.
- Visit the Community Education Program office at 975 High Street, suite 110 and complete the form. CEP staff will fax your completed form to the Office of the Registrar for processing.
- Visit the Office of the Registrar in 220 Oregon Hall and complete the form. You may receive your registration information and PAC in-person by providing photo ID with your completed form at the Office of the Registrar if it is during the appropriate part of the registration cycle. If it is not possible to receive your registration information and PAC immediately, it will be mailed to you.
It is against UO policy to send confidential material, such as a student ID number or PAC, via e-mail. If you forget your PAC or student ID number, visit the Office of the Registrar with photo ID.
Services
What privileges are available to CEP students?
During the term in which you are an actively enrolled CEP student, you have access to a variety of resources that are supported through mandatory fees. A list of services and privileges is available on the CEP services and privileges page.
Are CEP students eligible for athletic tickets?

How do I get a transcript?
Transcript requests should be directed to the Office of the Registrar. Requests can be made online via DuckWeb, by fax, or by mail. Requests are sent out in three to five business days (sooner if made through DuckWeb). For more information, visit the Office of the Registrar's Transcript Requests page.
Are CEP students eligible for Health Center and Counseling Center services?
CEP students do not pay the health service fee and therefore are not eligible for UO Health and Counseling Services.
Are CEP students eligible for student housing?
No, student housing is only available to admitted students. However, CEP students who are in the process of applying for formal admission may request special consideration by contacting University Housing.
Course Information
How do I search for courses? Do you have a brochure/schedule of classes?
All credit courses are listed online in the schedule of classes. CEP students are eligible to register for any UO credit course if space is available, the course level is appropriate, and all prerequisites have been satisfied. The UO Catalog is available online for free. Print copies of the UO Catalog can be purchased through the Duck Store.
What is a CRN?
A CRN (course reference number) is a unique five-digit number that identifies a specific section of course. To register for a course, you will need the corresponding CRN found in the schedule of classes.
Do you offer courses online?
Yes, please visit the Distance Education website for a list of courses currently offered online. Like all UO classes, online courses are available to CEP students provided space is available, the course level is appropriate, and all prerequisites have been satisfied.
Registering
How do I register for a UO course as a CEP student?
You must first complete the CEP Registration Eligibility form to get a Personal Access Code (PAC) and student ID number. Your PAC and student ID number will be sent to you via postal mail within five to ten business days after completing this form. Please note this may take several weeks for international mailings. Registration is done online through DuckWeb, a secure registration system.
When can I register?
After you have received your PAC and student ID number, you may register for courses once the CEP registration window has opened. Check the CEP calendar for registration dates.
Can I take more than 8 credits?
CEP students are limited to a maximum of 8 credits per term, including both undergraduate and graduate level courses during fall, winter, and spring terms. This credit limit is set by the UO Provost and cannot be waived. During summer term, students are eligible to register for more credits. Students wishing to register for more than 8 credits during the regular academic year should apply for formal admission.
What does it mean to audit a course?
Audited courses are recorded on a student's transcript, but no credit is earned. The tuition and fees for the audit option are the same as the credit option, but the academic expectations of course work are different. Audited courses do not satisfy degree requirements or the Graduate School's continuous enrollment requirement. Auditor Registration forms are available from the Office of the Registrar beginning the first day of classes each term. Courses can be audited only if space is available and department and/or instructor approval is granted. Information on Senior Audits is also available from the Office of the Registrar.
Will credits earned as a CEP student transfer (apply towards a degree) at another college or university?
In most cases, credits taken from a regionally accredited four-year college or university may be applied toward a degree at other schools. However, you should contact the institution to which you plan on transferring credit to for confirmation that courses and credits will be accepted.
Registration Problems
What if I can't log in to DuckWeb?
Make sure you are entering your student ID number and PAC correctly with the appropriate capitalizations and no punctuation. If you cannot remember your PAC, click the "Forgot PAC" button to reset it. If you enter your PAC incorrectly three times, your account will be disabled and you will need to contact the Office of the Registrar to have it reset (UO staff and faculty should contact Human Resources).
I can log in to DuckWeb, but I can't register. What should I do?
Check the CEP calendar to make sure CEP registration has opened. If CEP registration has opened but you are blocked from registering, select "View Holds" under the Student Menu in DuckWeb to see if any holds exist on your record. If your account does not have holds and CEP registration has opened, call the CEP Office at 541-346-5614 for assistance.
How do I register for a course that requires approval and/or has prerequisites?
Registration for courses that have prerequisites must be pre-approved by the specific academic department and/or course instructor. Some courses, such as certain online classes, may have a unique approval process, which will be noted in the course listing on the Schedule of Classes.
What if I can't register for the course I want?
Unfortunately, some courses do fill up before all students are able to register. If the course you would like to register is full, please contact the course instructor to explore your options. If you are unable to register for a course due to not satisfying the necessary prerequisites, please contact the Office of Academic Advising to discuss alternatives.
